“Have you thought about how you can make a difference in your own unique way?” by Julia Cooksey-Evans, Founder – Coloring Over Cancer

Have you thought about how you can make a difference in your own unique way?

When I started Coloring Over Cancer, my goal was to make a positive difference in the lives of cancer patients.  Generally speaking,  I think making a positive difference is a goal many of us share.  I’d even go so far as to say that this is how most of us infuse our lives with meaning, trying to somehow leave the world in a better place than how we came upon it.

Being a brain and breast cancer survivor, I know firsthand how difficult battling this horrific disease can be. I know the toll it can take on you both physically and mentally during this time in your life any beyond.  That being said, I found coloring (a form of art therapy) to be very therapeutic throughout my two-time cancer journey.  It helped to relieve the stress and anxiety that I was feeling, while undergoing treatment or recovering from surgeries.

Wanting to pay it forward, I authored and published a coloring book specifically for cancer patients. The book is filled with positivity, motivation and encouragement. I wanted the book to be a gift to those battling cancer and to their supports. In order to do this, I founded Coloring Over Cancer in 2019.  We are a unique 501 c 3 nonprofit organization. Our mission is to bring to bare healing and inspiration through creation and vibrancy of color. We do this through art, more specifically coloring.  To me, conquering cancer means sharing positive affirmations, relaying educational information, providing resources, and promoting social-emotional support to empower people.

As Henri Matisse once said, “ Creativity Takes Courage”. My hope is that Coloring Over Cancer will inspire you as you journey into your creative power and seek opportunity to make a difference in this world.
